Jan Václav Spitzer (1711 – 1773)

• Was a Czech painter of murals, altarpieces and portraits in the late Baroque and Rococo periods.

• He first trained with the Prague painter Francesco Domenico Barbieri.
• From 1736 he continued his studies at the Academy in Vienna.
• He also studied the painting of Cosmas by Damián Asam, Václav Reiner and Rococo Venetian painting.
• He was one of the most diligent painters of his time in Bohemia. • For example, he worked for the monastery churches of the Benedictines or the Pauline monks.
• His paintings were converted into copperplate engravings by Antonín Birkhardt.
• On July 30, 1743, in the Church of St. Havel married Anna Barbora Pokorná in Prague and they settled in the Old Town in Reiner's House.
