Johan Henrik Scheffel (1690 – 1781)

• Was a Swedish artist.
• Scheffel was born in Wismar.
• He came to Stockholm in 1723, having previously studied in Germany and the Netherlands.
• He was well acquainted with David von Kraft, who spoke well of Scheffel.
• Johan in 1735 became a member of the then Academy of Drawing (Ritarakademien), and from 1763 was its director.
• In Stockholm, the artist worked until 1765, when he moved to Västerås.
• He became known for his portraits of Carl von Linné, Christopher Polhem and Hedvig Charlotta Nordenflycht.
