• Memling moved to Flanders and worked in the tradition of Early Netherlandish painting.
• Memling served his apprenticeship at Mainz or Cologne, and later worked under Rogier van der Weyden (c. 1455–1460) in Brussels, Duchy of Brabant.
• Memling’s refined, elegant works introduce elements derived from Italian art.
• He exercised a notable influence on other painters of the stature of Gerard David and Juan de Flandes.
