Pere Espalargues (last decade of the fifteenth century)

• Was a Spanish Gothic painter.
• He was a disciple or follower of Pedro García de Benabarre.
• It is presumed that he was born in Els Molins, a place in Ribagorza between Santoréns (Sopeira) and Betesa, now in the municipality of Arén, in the province of Huesca.
• On April 30, 1495 he resided in the capital of the county of Ribagorza, as can be seen from a notarial document in which the "mestre Pere Pallargues habitant ville de Benavarre" was mentioned, thus completing the known biographical data.
• As an independent master he completed in 1490 the altarpiece of Enviny, in the Pallars Sobirá, of which the panels of the main body, after being dismantled and sold in 1909, are preserved in the Hispanic Society of New York while those that formed the doors and the predella passed to the Johnson collection in Philadelphia (Philadelphia Museum of Art).
