Pietro de Rossi (1761-1831)
• Was a prominent Italian miniaturist and portrait painter.
• He spent his entire career in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
• He attended the class on enamel miniatures taught by Petr Zharkov at the Academy of Arts.
•In an exhibition at the Academy that year he exhibited five miniatures.
• Around 1800, he became the appointed miniaturist for the Russian court.
• In 1813, he was granted the title of Academician for a miniature of the sculptor Ivan Martos and became a professor of miniature painting at the Imperial Academy of Arts.
• His subjects included high-ranking Russian military officers, princes, counts, and other members of the aristocracy, such as Count Alexei Fyodorovich Orlov and Prince Sergey Sergeyevich Saltykov.
• Often working with watercolor and bodycolor on ivory, as well as enamel on copper.
