Hugo Allard the Elder (1620–c.1691)

• Was a Dutch engraver, cartographer, printmaker, and publisher.
• He worked in Tournai and in Amsterdam where he married in 1647 and died in 1684.
• Allard's career coincided with the heyday of the two great cartographic publishing dynasties in Amsterdam, the Blaeus and the Hondius-Janssonius family. 
• His signature appears as a monogram HAL, in some engravings of Crispin van Passe II (H. 92, 147, 148 and 152).
• First name sometimes spelt variously Huijch, Huych, Huyck and last name sometimes Allardt.
• His son was Carel Allard.
