Theodor Vercruys (ca.1680-1739)

• Was an Italian, North Netherlandish painter, print artist, art dealer, draftsperson.
• Signatures on his prints (a.o.): Teodoro VerCruijs, Teodor Vercruijße, Teodoro Vcruyße, Teodoro Ver Cruyse, Teod. Verkruijs, Ver Cruys.
• Son of Cornelis Dircks Vercruijs (born c. 1630) and Lijsbeth Adriaens/Arents, brother of Johannis Vercruys (active in Rome); father of J. (Johann/Giovanni) Verkruys.

• He was active 1695-1739 in Florence, Rome, Parma (city).

• He was a member of Accademia del Disegno (Florence) Inscribed in the period 1706-1739 (with an interruption in 1715 when he left for Parma.
• In 1706 his name was written as Teodoro Wercrais, the latter being a phonetical rendering of how the name sounds in Dutch; 1715: Wercroyx; 1738: Werkruysse; 1739: Werkruijsse.
• He was teacher of Teresa Mogalli, Giovanni Girolamo de' Pazzi, and J. Verkruys.
