• Was an Italian architect, painter, miniaturist, engraver and art collector.
• Son of Bartolomeo Vantini.
• At almost 16 years old, in July 1780, he executed a painting depicting the Visitation of St. Elizabeth, a copy by the master Sante Cattaneo, for Count Giacomo Carrara.
• After the death of his father on 2 July 1780, the young Vantini moved to Mantua as a pupil of
Giuseppe Bottani from Cremona.
• From the Cremonese master he learned the art of neoclassicism and the love for antiquity.
• On the death of the master he returned to his hometown where he lived with his mother.
• In September 1785 he married Oliva Leonesio who bore him two children, Carolina Lucrezia, and Rodolfo Ferdinando Giovanni who would become an architect.
• Benvenuto Domenico Vantini had great pictorial ability which led him to execute paintings and miniatures on ivory.
