Jean Baptiste Claude Robin (1734–1818)

• Was a Dutch Golden Age painter.
• Robin was born in Paris.
• Robin entered the studio of the painter Gabriel-François Doyen in 1758.
• Admitted to the Royal Academy in 1772.
• He exhibited at the Salon du Louvre between 1773 and 1798.
• His major work remains the ceiling painted in 1777 for the theater of the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux. 
• Commissioned from the artist in 1774 thanks to the protection of Marshal-Duke of Mouchy, the ceiling was the subject of a preparatory modello in 1777 that the painter presented at the Salon the following year. 
• From the beginning of his career, he received numerous commissions, which were regularly presented at the Salon du Louvre, until the Revolution.
• At the Salon of 1775, he presented the Portrait of the children of Marshal Mouchy, his protector, intended for the cabinet of Madame la Maréchale.
• He painted in 1781 frescoes for the abbey of Saint-Victor.
• At the end of his life, he seems to turn more to genre painting.
