Ludwig Refinger (born c. 1505-1549)

• Was a German Northern renaissance painter.
• Ingolstadt or Röfingen is assumed to be his place of birth.
• From 1528 onwards, he learned painting in Wolfgang Muelich's workshop in Munich, together with Barthel Beham and Hans Mielich.
• He then worked in Munich and Landshut.
• After Barthel Beham died in 1540, Ludwig Refinger married his widow and adopted the children.
• This marriage produced three more children.
• Two of Ludwig's children Bartelme, and Karl, also became painters. 
• He worked alongside Albrecht Altdorfer, Jörg Breu, Melchior Feselen and others on a history cycle with 16 paintings for Duke William IV.
• From 1540 to 1543 he worked for Duke Ludwig X in the city residence of Landshut, where he executed a series of frescoes and stained glass.
• Died in Munich in 1549.
