David Richter the Younger (1664-1741)

• Was a Swedish painter.
• He was the brother of Johan Richter, Bengt Richter and Christian Richter, cousin of David Richter the Elder.
• Richter was the son of the goldsmith Johan Richter and Brita Bengtsdotter Selling.

• Became a journeyman goldsmith at the age of 20 but then switched to painting.

• In 1697 he went abroad and stayed for a long time in Italy.

• After returning home, around 1710, he executed a few portraits in oil, but then devoted himself exclusively to miniature painting.

• He was a court miniaturist from 1719 to 1728.

• His very small miniatures are painted in a dot technique with a light colour scale.

• Richter married Elisabeth Ziese (1700–1738) on 18 December 1718.
