Paul Juvenal the Elder (1579 - 1643)

• Was a German painter.
• He was born in Nuremberg in December 1579, into a family of Flemish origin.
• At first Paul was a student of his father Nicolas and then continued his training under Adam Elsheimer in Frankfurt.
• Juvenal designed and painted facades and interior decoration for many important homes in Nuremberg.
• His subjects included both religious and mythological themes. In addition to large decorative ensembles.
• Juvenal continued to paint religious scenes, often on small copper plates like those of Elsheimer.
• He received commissions to copy and restore works by Albrecht Dürer.
• Juvenel moved to Vienna in 1638 and from there to Bratislava, where he died in 1643. 
• His three sons and his daughter all also became painters.
