Cristóbal Lozano (1705-1776)
• Was a Peruvian painter.
• Born in Lima.
• Son of unknown parents he was baptized at the age of two in the parish od Santa Ana, by a Dominican friar of last name Lozano.
• He must have been trained in one of the Lima workshops.
• After the great earthquake of 1746 in Lima, Lozano had the opportunity to restore many of the paintings that the city kept.
• In 1746, Lozano became the official painter of Jose Antonio Manso de Velasco.
• Oidor Pedro Bravo de Lagunas became also his patron.
• In 1760 Lozano became involved with the Jesuit Order by executing the large canvas of The Crowned Virgin surrounded by Jesuit saints.
• In 1760 Lozano received several commissions to the Hospital of the Good Death, headquarters of the congregation.
