Phil. Fernandus Antwerpensis (16.-17. century)

• Flemish painter, from Antwerp.
• Active in, around Brno.

• The identity of the painter, who signed himself Phil. Fernandus Antwerpensis, is somewhat of a mystery. 

• He is often identified with the Brno painter Filip Besinger (? – 1612), but other theories consider him to be a Prague painter from the circle of the Rudolfinian court.

• The artist was very close to the circle of court artists of Emperor Rudolf II in Prague.

• It is therefore possible that he was a Dutch artist working directly in Prague, who was hired by the Brno clients for the work.
