Brandýs nad Labem Castle was a popular residence of the Habsburg rulers. An important Renaissance monument with preserved sgraffito decoration is open to the public.

The chateau in Brandýs nad Labem is one of the most important Renaissance monuments in Bohemia. Over the course of four centuries, all the rulers of the Habsburg dynasty stayed here. Brandýs was very popular with Emperor Rudolf II, who used it as his main residence outside Prague. Emperor Charles VI and his entire court used to go hunting here and from here he went to Prague for the royal coronation – as did Maria Theresa and Ferdinand V.
