Jan Gerritsz van Bronckhorst (1603–1661),

• Was a Dutch Golden Age painter and engraver.
• Cornelis Poelenburg taught him to paint.
• He frequented the studio of Gerard van Honthorst.
• He married Catalijntje van Noort in 1626.
• In 1647 he moved to Amsterdam where he created the stained glass windows and the organ doors of the Nieuwe Kerk (finished in 1655).
• Among his pupils are his sons Jan Jansz and Gerrit Jansz, and Cesar van Everdingen.
• The Displayed painting is:  Jean van Bronchorst by Pieter Bailliu after a selfportrait, published in Cornelis de Bie's Gulden Cabinet in 1662.
