• Was a Czech-born Austrian painter and etcher.
• He was born in Bílovec in Moravian-Silesian Region.
• His father was Matthias Zimbal.
• As a boy he came to Vienna and stayed in the monastery of the Brothers of Mercy on today's Taborstrasse.
• In 1742 his name first appears in the records of the Vienna Academy of Arts, where he enrolled that year to study painting until he graduated in 1753.
• Cimbal became friends with the painter
Felix Ivo Leicher and the sculptor Raymond Sieß.
• Sieß sponsored some of Cimbal's children at their baptisms.
• He worked for the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God practically until the end of his life.
• His two sons, the painters Johann Cimbal and Jacob Cimbal, later worked for the same client.
• The most remarkable set of paintings created for clients from the Czech lands can be found in Kuks, in the local hospital and church of the Brothers of Mercy.
• He married in 1760 Maria Clara Josefa Oblasser.
• He left most of his work in Vienna,
Lower Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and the territory of today's Austrian Burgenland.
