Antonio Cioci (c. 1722-1792)

• Was an Italian painter, engraver, and decorator.
• He was active in Florence.
• By 1770 he had become director of the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, a government department dedicated to the cutting of hard stone.
• He was responsible for the decoration of the Villa la Tana at Candeli and the ducal villa at Poggio Imperiale.
• Antonio Cioci was employed in the Galleria dei Lavori di Firenze at the end of 1771 and died on 15 November 1792.
• Around 1780, in the Medici Villa of Poggio Imperiale, Antonio Cioci decorated the overdoors of the neoclassical wing with marines.
• Antonio Cioci was employed in the Galleria dei Lavori di Firenze at the end of 1771 and died on 15 November 1792.
• Immediately afterwards his son, Leopoldo Cioci, began work as designer and was in charge of selecting the stones for the Galleria.
