Hieronymus Bosch (c. 1450 – 1516)

• Was a Dutch/Netherlandish painter from Brabant.
• His surname Bosch derives from his birthplace, 's-Hertogenbosch ('Duke's forest').
• Bosch did not date his paintings, but—unusual for the time—he seems to have signed several of them.
• In the late 16th century, Philip II of Spain acquired many of Bosch's paintings.
• Bosch painted his works mostly on oak panels using oil as a medium.
• The displayed painting is a crop from Hieronymus Bosch, Ecce Homo, ca. 1490.
