Alessandro Allori (1535–1607)

• Was an Italian painter.
• Sometimes nicknamed Il Bronzino, from the name of his master, for this reason he is often confused with Agnolo Bronzino.
• Born to the swordsman Cristofano di Lorenzo and Dianora Sofferoni.
• Already in 1552 he painted a Crucifixion, now lost, for Alessandro de' Medici.
• In 1554 he left for Rome with his brother Bastiano, frequenting the numerous circle of Tuscan artists.
• On the death of his father, in 1555, Angelo Bronzino became the de facto head of the Allori family and Alessandro added the surname Bronzino to his own.
• The displayed painting is a crop from: Alessandro Allori, Hercules Crowned by the Muses, c. 1568.
